Shoebooks software can be installed on a server at your premises. The software can be configured to be available only on the local network and/or available over the internet.
There are a number of reasons why you would want to host the software yourself but the two main reasons are:
1. Another Database – you have another database system on your local network such as a billing, time reporting or job costing system that would benefit from being able to directly post information into the accounting system.
Custom solutions can be setup where communication between the systems is automatic. I.e. No need to import/export data. (This now can also be done with a hosted solution via the SOAP interface.)
2. Large Number of Users/Seats – call centre type solution where there is a large number of users connecting simultaneously – the system is fast over the internet due to the system predominantly exchanging text but where there are 50+ users then the locally hosted version would perform better.
